So... Last summer saw my first trip up to Edinburgh for the Fringe Festival. It was utterly mind-blowing and we were only there for three days, we've booked a week this year so it should be even awesomer! So we hopped in the car with our Rich Fulcher tickets in hand and begun the exceedingly long drive to Edinburgh! I went with my mother (say hello mother)
...and my mum's partner Steve, (say hello Steve)
...and Steve's eccentric friend Mark, (say hello Mark.)
So as you can tell, it was an interesting trip...(It will be this same group this summer as well, wish me luck!)
So we went exploring and found our way to the Fringe shop with my superb navigation skills, being handed fifty or so leaflets in the process! We stood in the queue to purchase our Patrick Monahan tickets and filed through the leaflets and Fringe magazine. We ended up purchasing tickets for Andrew Bird, Tiff Stevenson, Phill Jupitus and Patrick Monahan.
So the first show of the expedition was Phill Jupitus and his improvising posse- It was a great show and I was laughing like a madman the whole way through! They played a few improvising games on stage and did an awesome job of it!
The second day we started off by seeing Tiff Stevenson's (of ITV's Show me the Funny) show, 'cavewoman.' It was a thoroughly hilarious show and I would highly recommend seeing her if you ever get the chance. At one point in her set she asked 'any teenagers in today?' So obviously I shouted 'yes!' She said 'Oh, you! Hello, how old are you?' I replied 'Thirteen!' She laughed a little and went 'Christ, how did you get it?!'
Our second show of the day was Andrew Bird, a great comedian who told about his village tales! I thought I lived in a village until hearing the miniscule scale of his home patch! A very funny show and I once again would recommend catching him any oppurtunity that arises!
The final show of the day was Patrick Monahan, who I'd fallen in love with a couple of days previous so the chance to go see him was... just... islgfuryegfuyasgfkddyhdduyfg. I never mentioned that the day before seeing his show I saw him in the street and stalked him around Edinburgh for a bit, not daring to go up to him... eheh.
But back to the show! We decided to be very daring and take on the front row! What were we thinking?! We were sat with an old fella who decided it would be good idea to whisper in Pat's ear that he was a 'Pat Monahan Virgin' :')
So! I got my first hug as he was on his way in, just imagine how happy I was! It was a great show, from an amazing Stand-up who once again I highly recommend you go buy tickets for now!
Now for the third day... Picture the scene, we're strolling down the crowded Fringe central street, me in my Bob Fossil t-shirt when we run into the track of a girl handing out leaflets, her opening line being, 'from the makers of the Mighty Boosh...' I was immediately interested. She noticed my t-shirt saying 'oh you're a fan! Have you seen Rich yet?'
'I'm seeing him tonight actually!'
'Oh great! I saw him last year, he was in drag, it was hilarious!'
'Oh wow! '
'Anyway so these are The Real MacGuffins!'
So we headed down to the ticket place in somewhat a frenzy and quickly purchased tickets, then proceeded to practically run to the Pleasance for the show. The Real MacGuffins put on one of THE funniest shows I've ever seen! However improved a little bit more by one of them chatting up a sixthformer! Awkward. Anyway, sorry for repeating myself yet again, but I much recommend you go see them if you ever get the chance.
The second show of the day was Paul MacGaffrey. A very talented comedian who we caught in the Underbelly... JUST caught, after legging it from the Pleasance! Another recommendation is due, a very funny man, if you ever get a moment.
The final show of the third day, and indeed, the trip itself, was what it was all building up to- Rich Fulcher's Tiny Acts of Rebellion! Before the show we were hangin' around the guilded balloon bar when we spotted Rich himself wandering down the front! I ran over to him, tapped him on the shoulder, exposed my t-shirt, presented a black fabric sharpie and practically screamed 'hey! can you sign my top please!' He was really sweet and I said I was coming to the show that night and-
In case you can't read it, it says 'Georgina, Feed those chickens! Bobby Bob Bob x'
The show that follows was pure genius, however crap the guy who attempted a tiny act was! R I C H F U L C H E R Y O U M U S T S E E H I M B E F O R E Y O U D I E !
To round the trip off nicely I then saw Pat hanging around after his show so I went and got him to sign my Fringe t-shirt! He wrote 'To Georgie, big up Blackpool, hugs Patrick Monahan x'
And thankyou for reading Ediburgh Fringe 1.0 and thankyou to all the human beings who made it awesome.
